Perry Chafe
Perry Chafe is an award-winning producer, writer, showrunner and bestselling novelist.
Perry was the co-creator and co-showrunner for the TV series Republic of Doyle, which ran for 6 seasons on the CBC. He was also an executive producer and writer for the Netflix/Discovery series Frontier starring Jason Momoa. In addition, Perry was an executive producer and writer for Caught, a CBC limited series based on Lisa Moore’s award-winning novel of the same name.Perry is currently a writer and producer on the hit CBC series Son of a Critch, based on the best-selling memoir from Mark Critch. Now in its fourth season, the show won the Audience Choice Award at the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards.
On May 23rd, 2024, CBC announced a 10-episode order of Saint-Pierre, an hour-long procedural series that Perry co-created. It is part of CBC’s 2025 winter lineup. Perry is serving as the show’s executive producer and senior writer.
In February of 2025, Netflix announced that it would be shooting a yet untitled six-part horror series set in Newfoundland about a mysterious sea creature. Shooting will begin in the summer of 2025 and Perry will serve as a senior writer and co-executive producer on this Jesse McKeown project.
Perry released his debut novel Closer By Sea on May 23rd, 2023. Published by Simon and Schuster Canada, it became an Instant National Bestseller, spending 5 weeks on both The Globe and Mail and The Toronto Star bestseller lists. Given its success, Perry signed a deal with Simon and Schuster in July of 2024 for a follow up to his first book.
Perry was born in Petty Harbour, Newfoundland and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University.
